Mario Kart 8 Gets its First DLC, and it’s Exciting

Mario Kart 8 Upside Down

Mario Kart 8 will get a number of downloadable content, and the first DLC pack includes three new characters (Link, Tanooki Mario, and Cat Peach), four new karts (the Blue Falcon, B Dasher, Master Cycle, and the Tanooki Kart), and eight new tracks, two of which are the Yoshi Circuit and Excitebike Area.

Mario Kart 8′s second DLC — called ‘Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8′ — is set to arrive by the end of May 2015 and introduces characters like the Animal Crossing Villager, Isabelle, and Dry Bowser, in addition to four new karts and eight additional tracks.

You can already buy either DLC pack for $7.99, or both of them at the discounted price of $11.99.

Mario Kart 8, like the other games in the series, is a go kart-like racing game that lets you control characters from the Mario franchise, racing against other players is on various race-tracks and using items to gain advantages or hinder your opponent’s progress.

Mario Kart 8 incorporates many gameplay-mechanics from earlier Mario Kart games, but also introduces a slate of new ones including anti-gravity vehicles that allow you to drive on walls or ceilings, as well as new single-player and multiplayer game modes. It also features Miiverse functionality and online multiplayer via the Nintendo Network.

Mario Kart 8 was a hit with both critics and gamers, achieving aggregate game scores of 88.52% and 88% on GameRankings and Metacritic, respectively, and selling nearly 3 million copies in just one month after going on sale. It will continue to receive post-release patches and support for Nintendo’s Amiibo line of figurines.

As you probably already know, Mario Kart 8 is only playable on the Nintendo Wii U.
